Definition
CIDR is the name given to Kidsnet's social networking, communications, and account management interface. It is an acronym, and stands for Core Internetworking Done Right. CIDR was released as part of Kidsnet version 2.1
Spelling and Pronunciation
The name will occasionally be seen written as CIDeR or CID[e]R; in these cases, the 'e' stands for 'everyone'. In rare cases it has also been referred to as CSIDE, its pre-release name, which stood for Core Social Internetworking Designed for Everyone. The name was dropped upon the addition of more sophisticated features like the Account Manager and Support Requests.
CIDR is pronounced the same way as 'cider', the kind of apple juice. Despite rumors to the contrary, CIDR is not pronounced 'cedar' (although some say this is a logical progression, given the number of Lone Pine projects that were named after evergreens).
Technical Details
The CIDR system is based on Drupal, an open-source portal application.
